I wouldn’t be surprised to see it move to the “Playable” rating very soon. Note that the game is listed by Valve as “Unsupported” when it comes to Steam Deck Compatibility as of this writing. While the game has booted up since the start on Steam Deck, a recent update to Proton Experimental and some experimentation with the settings have resulted in a decent experience for Forspoken on the go. I was very curious to see how it would run, if at all.

I did play a bit on my laptop, but this Forspoken Steam Deck review will focus on how Luminous Productions’ newest plays on Valve’s portable system.įorspoken was shown off on Steam Deck at TGS, and Square Enix has showcased it on the system as recently as last week. I’ve been slowly making progress and testing the game across different graphics options and replaying a few areas to see how Forspoken scales on Steam Deck. As one of Square Enix’s first built for current generation games, I was curious to see how it would run on Steam Deck given its hefty PC requirements, and with how rough the game could look on PS5 in parts. It is immersive and challenging, highly recommended.Square Enix and Luminous Productions’ Forspoken has been an interesting game to follow from a tech perspective. The game works to make it realistic by letting you do small stuff like scaling walls and the option to run across fields. It brings its own spin to the large fantasy world market and creates a protagonist that a lot of players will definitely love. Get ready for a new worldĪ lot of gameplay elements work together to make Forspoken the next adventure property to look out for. However, it’s important to note that this might not be appropriate for younger players due to its gore and mature themes. From fast and explosive to stealth and sniping types, it lets you create a skillset that will match your gameplay style.

Still, contrary to the long-ranged mage archetype, there’s a lot of spell types you can try and master. Lastly, its battle system relies on real-time actions using magic spells. You’ll see Frey jump across canyon gaps, scale walls, and sprint through large landscapes–keeping you busy and entertained for hours. Of course, more than being visually breathtaking, the environment is also largely interactive. From bright and colorful landscapes to dark and twisted dungeons, there’s a lot of range as far as set design is involved.

Visually speaking, the game utilizes the available technology to create stunning graphics. Meanwhile, it's great story draws similarities from Moana, the Disney film, with its use of once benevolent female figures corrupted by darkness of some sort. The interaction between her and Cuff, the gold and sentient bracelet, is funny and natural. Although the story feels like a fish out of water trope, Forspoken is actually far from it once you start playing.
